Bedbug Bite Treatment FAQs

Gee, what are bedbugs? Many children may ask.

Bedbugs are small insects with rust colored flat bodies and they have long antennae. These pests survive by feeding on the blood of living hosts, most often people. They're most active at night, and stay close to the area where they feed. This is why they're frequently discovered in mattresses. Bedbugs have been around for thousands of years, and have plagued mankind with irritating infestations. However, bedbugs were basically wiped out after World War II thanks to the pesticide DDT. However, DDT has since been banned because it was found to be extremely hazardous. These days, there are safe pesticides on the market that can be used to get rid of these household pests.

Where are bedbugs found?

== Family, Health and Bed Bugs Tips == On family health... This is a philosophy as much as anything else and this might be the hardest issue for you to grasp. Until you have made the decision to do this it is difficult to prove to you just how much healthier and more energetic you will feel. If you truly want to succeed in this path it will require a commitment you may not have shown in any other part of your life previously but being healthy is your choice.

Bedbugs are prevalent in areas of South America, Africa and Asia. They can live anywhere, and an increase in international travel and immigration have reintroduced the bedbug to our society. These pests easily stay hidden in suitcases, which is how they got from other countries to ours.

Once the bugs reach their new home, they can live in mattresses, upholstered furniture, in walls, behind baseboards, and in carpeting.

Do bedbug bites hurt?

While a bedbug is biting, you do not feel any pain. However the next day, you may experience burning, itching, swelling, and red welts or bumps. Fortunately bedbugs don't carry dangerous diseases like dengue fever. However, their bites can make you feel unpleasant.

What do bedbug bites look like?

Bedbug bites look similar to mosquito bites. You may also notice blisters or welts on the skin that are red or inflamed. These blisters and welts may be itchy or painful. They may be mistaken for mosquito bites. However, if you go to bed with no bites and wake up covered in them, a mosquito may not be to blame. Rarely, a person bitten by a bedbug will exhibit absolutely no symptoms whatsoever.

== Family, Health and Bed Bugs Tips == On children's eczema... Baby eczema is often the result of antibiotics given to the baby when it is born, as many doctors will attest. Treating babies requires a little more thought as they cannot tell us what irritates them so only bath them in lukewarm water and use fragrance free, hypoallergenic creams. Once out of the bath they need to be dried off carefully and then clothed in a soft natural cotton fabric which should prevent irritation. To stop a baby form scratching the irritated skin it is important to ensure they have their nails short and wear mittens which should help stop further infection. For infants with more serious baby eczema, antihistamine cream may be prescribed which should help stop the itching; steroid creams can also be used for a short period to help heal the skin. This is a difficult medical condition to not only control but overcome despite being a common complaint.

How do I treat bedbug bites?

Bedbug bite treatment is fairly simple. Basically, you need something to reduce swelling and alleviate uncomfortable symptoms like itching and burning. An icepack can be perfect for the swelling. As for the itching and burning, try calamine lotion or any other cream designed to alleviate discomfort from insect bites. You may also want to try soaking in Epsom salts or colloidal oatmeal baths, both of which can dry out blisters and reduce uncomfortable symptoms.
